I'm very pleased to have had the foresight to write my password down and then ...to have remembered where that piece of paper was. I'm pretty sure i'll be talking to myself for awhile, (LOL) ...until I figure out how to promote this blog in a way that others will actually visit it and read it ~ which I hope will, eventually, benefit all of us.

So much has changed since last updated this blog. I'm still very fortunate to be living in my dream house, that was just finishing construction at the time i last wrote back in 2016. I was diagnosed with severe COPD which prevents me from being able to do so much of what I truly love to do, such as gardening, treasure hunting at various venues such as thrift shops, antique malls, yard sales and even some dumpster diving! Those that know me and those that have followed me know how much I loved it. The good news is, is that I had so much inventory already lining the shelves and drawers of my workshop that I have plenty to do to keep my quite busy for a good long time.

I'm loving the junk journals. My daughter made me one and I got hooked! Ive been inspired so much! Here are a few things i've created recently.

Ps. Please leave me a comment so i know i'm not talking to myself! I have lots of things i'd like to run through my blog; to get to know some of you and be reacquainted with some of my past followers. With my health situation I don't foresee myself being able to do a YouTube channel like so many do to promote their art. Im going to give this a go and see where it goes.

The pictures are of embellishments for a junk journal that I created. 2 are tags about 6x4" featuring my hand painted pink cottage tea roses and the smaller pieces are hand-painted topiaries and roses on fabric and old book pages.

Just 20 more days left and it’s official. I think I’ve always loved Spring so much, and found it to be my favorite season, because it is time for things to be new and fresh and colorful after a long dreary winter, especially here in the Pacific Northwest.

Many of you might remember that one of the reasons I fell away from Northwest Pretties in mid 2012 was when it was decided that a new house was going to be built to replace the manufactured house the property was purchased with. And, that “I” would be the contractor on that project! There just wasn’t time for both. You may also remember that the New House was signed for occupancy around this time in 2014, yet many projects remained on the list of things to complete … i.e., rock walls, landscape, concrete, moving in, decorating, etc … all very time consuming and distracting.

What most of you do not know is that right on the heels of this remarkable and exciting event of building a dream house, my mother took a turn for the worse in her Alzheimer's disease, when it became apparent that she would no longer be required to continue with her tri-yearly clinical evaluations in the progression of her condition. She had reached the maximum stage of mental degeneration. All that would remain would be the slow process of her physical degeneration[s.]

Living out of state and being the oldest of her surviving children was met with some tough challenges, emotionally, spiritually & physically. I traveled back and forth as much as possible. A week here, 10 days there and I was always available for the long, long phone calls in between those visits with my little brother and little sister. We held each other up through some very heartbreaking events that unfolded as this cruel disease manifested over the next year and a half.

But we did it. My little brother provided her daily care. Friends and neighbors helped look after her. My little sister and I did as much as possible {distance} and then with the assistance of nurses and hospice helping all of us, my mom got to stay in her home. (It was her greatest fear that she would die alone in a nursing home.) On Nov. 11th 2015 my mom passed away, in her home with her 3 surviving children, me by her side.

One of the last “conversations” I had with my mother was about me. I had come for a visit and when I walked in the door from the airport, I said “Hi Mom, it’s me, Susan” as I leaned in to give her a hug and kiss, she looked at me without words. My little brother popped up and said, “Mom, it’s Susan, from Seattle.” My mom raised her head and said, “I have a daughter that lives in Seattle, she owns her own business and makes the most beautiful things, do you know her?” I told her that I did, very well. She carried on about all the “beautiful” things I had created over the years and flowers I had arranged for garden shows, and awards and all about this and that.

It’s almost Spring. The perfect time for me to use as a fresh, new out-look on everything! I have the spirit churning... the buds are bursting, the birds are singing and I'm ready. I do love what I do, so much. I love creating beautiful things! And I can't wait to jump in. =)
And mom would be proud.

Everyone knows how much Marie Antoinette loved the flowers from her gardens. Envelope her in some favorites for this blooming book of beauty! ~ Rhonda

GENERAL DIRECTIONS
On the FRONT of the page, please be sure to leave 1/4 to 1/2 inch free of embellishments, ribbons, etc. to account for binding on the LEFT hand margin. On the BACK of the page, please be sure to leave the same amount, but on the RIGHT hand margin. To bind, I have to place each page into the binder approximately ONE INCH DEEP. I need to have this area accessible to allow for this.

Create one original Marie Antoinette 4 x 4 page and duplicate for each member.

Please use card stock or heavier, no paper pages. Embellish your copies to you heart's content. You can use any type of embellishments but please remember to leave the margins clear as stated above. Otherwise I will have to alter your page.

If your embellishments extend off of the 4x4 page, that is fine UNLESS it is on the left margin or the bottom of the page. Most artists like to display their book standing up and if your embellishments are hard and extend off of the bottom of the page then the book cannot stand up. Thanks!

Put your name and any other info you would like to share (email address, blog/flickr page) on the back of your page, and decorate. Please remember that this is a book and BOTH sides of your page will be viewed.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 373px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_-AfYbr0qY9c/S945nebylQI/AAAAAAAAASQ/6gO1qKYQhW8/s400/marieflowers2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5466870348021667074" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 252px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-AfYbr0qY9c/S945m2U9ctI/AAAAAAAAASI/SBgp7JtqtAM/s400/marieflowers42.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5466870337255600850" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 385px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_-AfYbr0qY9c/S945XSGerWI/AAAAAAAAASA/sPG37gmhcgY/s400/marieflowers.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5466870069833149794" />Northwest Prettieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13410897412014294766noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-957655922256139679.post-27856470080248109112010-04-07T11:53:00.001-07:002010-04-07T12:02:01.409-07:00Special Orders CompletedIt ALWAYS feels good to get your orders all finished up! They have become a favorite to many of the customers I have established with eBay. I have already listed and sold 24 this year. There are 5 currently on auction and I'll be adding 3 more in just awhile. I hope to make it to 30 before the Easter arrives!!

Click on my eBay auction tab on the right to find the current eggs listed.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 375px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_-AfYbr0qY9c/S6k3MNg-_0I/AAAAAAAAAP4/4huVbl_IdA4/s400/egggroup.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5451949506834661186" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 396px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-AfYbr0qY9c/S6k3m7NavHI/AAAAAAAAAQA/5uBETEGA99A/s400/egggroup23.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5451949965777222770" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 387px; height: 374px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_-AfYbr0qY9c/S6k34Rsbk2I/AAAAAAAAAQI/Ns5yRQq2_mo/s400/egggroup321.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5451950263870657378" />Northwest Prettieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13410897412014294766noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-957655922256139679.post-51086306262183111382010-02-12T12:51:00.000-08:002010-02-12T12:58:16.143-08:00I Finished my Marie Inspired Felted Hearts!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 344px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-AfYbr0qY9c/S3XAetD9wpI/AAAAAAAAAPg/0BJsC1_dRd4/s400/mariefelthearts6.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5437463758844576402" />
Our Challenge was to:
Sew 3" hearts, using felt. There are many pretty colors to find in felt, please use Pastel colors.Wool or Polyester blend is fine for this project, but If you're using wool felt, please ask your partner before hand if she's allergic to wool first
For one hearts cut 2 pieces of felt in the shape of a heart 3"... for the center stuffing you can use sheet batting it's flat and easier to work with. or you can double your felt and use that for the inside stuffing.
You can make these either hanging ornaments or hanging sachets to hang in your closet, using ribbon, string or fibers.
For embellishing use lace, trims,ribbons, and mini flowers, or anything that's pretty. You can add your sachet inside before you sew together.(using sachet scents optional)
These can be hand sewn or machine sewn, embellishments can be attached with a clear fabric glue, felt is easy to sew, these are quick and easy. In the photo above I sewed my hearts together by hand using a blanket stitch, the embellishments I used a clear fabric glue, the choice is yours. Thanks everyone, enjoy!

Here are my Hearts:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 396px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_-AfYbr0qY9c/S3W_zW4RVTI/AAAAAAAAAPA/k4yfMQwk41A/s400/mariefelthearts3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5437463014155572530" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 338px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_-AfYbr0qY9c/S3W__dtDwsI/AAAAAAAAAPI/vyFZS7P9ch4/s400/mariefelthearts2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5437463222146024130" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 327px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_-AfYbr0qY9c/S3XAKU_TUwI/AAAAAAAAAPQ/Qg4mtYyidBo/s400/mariefelthearts4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5437463408785183490" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 391px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_-AfYbr0qY9c/S3XAVJDe8xI/AAAAAAAAAPY/-e6V8fPP61M/s400/mariefelthearts5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5437463594560058130" />
I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed working with the wonderful fabric! I was rallied & cheered on by my granddaughter.

I designed a place that I could imagine myself entering and lounging around in with my favorite magazine or book and a cup of freshly brewed coffee!

The only rule for the contest was to start with this particuliar building/gazebo. It came in pieces -raw wood. I crackled and antiqued the frame in a creamy white over vintage green. It turned out fabulous, I was very pleased. The flooring was done with a paintable fresco wall paper that I cut & pieced together. I also antiqued that. I used fresh wispy birch branches to enter-twine in and around the roof and around the posts. They emerge from a pair of "cherub" column planters that I painted black and gave a gold highlight to. I attached the various pink paper roses all around on sprigs of baby tear and pepper berry greenery.

I used 2 victorian wire chairs, a victorian bird cage (decorated in roses & birch too) and a baker's rack, all of which I painted black. I made a chair cushion for the fan back wire chair and even little bow ties hanging from the back. I created the swing by removing the legs from a cottage style "sofa"... I punched holes on the back and arms & used eyelets and rings to attach & hold the vintage pearl and wire loop "chain" hangers. I hand made the sofa cushions and throw pillows from things I had on hand and hand painted the frame in black with gold accents which matches the little table where you'll find waiting a cake and pretty tea cup and saucer.

I had a lot of fun designing this and my granddaughter is so pleased. I can't wait to find out where (or if) we'll place in the contest. No matter the outcome, we've had a great time doing this. I'll keep you posted, I 'm not sure when they announce the winners.

The scale is 1 inch = 1 foot.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 393px; height: 266px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-AfYbr0qY9c/SyMwIhpbNOI/AAAAAAAAANY/hFVF0tSuDc8/s400/gazebo107small.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5414224100058674402" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 269px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-AfYbr0qY9c/SyMvbEk7vMI/AAAAAAAAANI/W2rg2Lt7bfo/s400/contest19small.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5414223319161093314" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 329px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-AfYbr0qY9c/SyMuNJdVoBI/AAAAAAAAANA/7ecOMta-86k/s400/contestfrontsmall2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5414221980441616402" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 292px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-AfYbr0qY9c/SyMuM0bOT2I/AAAAAAAAAM4/nGi7NpfYca4/s400/contest16small.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5414221974795603810" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 329px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-AfYbr0qY9c/SyMuMoSnIOI/AAAAAAAAAMw/vBFp5e_eJhc/s400/contestfrontsmall2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5414221971538256098" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 253px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-AfYbr0qY9c/SyMuMEGn9VI/AAAAAAAAAMo/u4tvYS5GdsE/s400/gazebo103small.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5414221961824302418" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_-AfYbr0qY9c/SyMuL7XBK8I/AAAAAAAAAMg/oh-mxbfUfB0/s400/gazebo106small.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5414221959477144514" />Northwest Prettieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13410897412014294766noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-957655922256139679.post-29696360692492388832009-12-04T01:24:00.000-08:002009-12-04T18:46:02.387-08:00Marie Antoinette Christmas at VersaillesI finished my pages for the 4x4 Book Swap. We had to do 12 pages (there were 12 members who joined this swap.)

This is what we had to do:
Create one original Marie Antoinette 4 x 4 page and then make x number of color copies (one for each member) via your local copy center OR your home printer. Please use card stock or heavier, no paper pages. Embellish your copies to you heart's content. You can use any type of embellishments. It can be a digital page, you can cut and paste to collage, or make a copy on your printer and add to it. Whatever you like. You just need to make sure that each participant has your page for their book.

Put your name and any other info you would like to share (email address, blog/flickr page) on the back of your page, and feel free to decorate. Please remember that this is a book and both sides of your page will be viewed.

Send your finished pages to me. I will then bind all participant's pages into a book and send one book to each participant.

Exciting isn't it!!

Here are the pages I sent:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 333px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_-AfYbr0qY9c/SxjX-R3iMKI/AAAAAAAAALI/Kv3oCuKyI0I/s400/mariechristmas09-5small.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5411312417233842338" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 340px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-AfYbr0qY9c/SxjX-BvEIKI/AAAAAAAAALA/xMeWaVrmDxE/s400/mariechristmas09-4small.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5411312412903350434" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 311px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_-AfYbr0qY9c/SxjX95nI2wI/AAAAAAAAAK4/PsHYceAPPtE/s400/mariechristmas09-3small.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5411312410722622210" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 307px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-AfYbr0qY9c/SxjX9gUmJ1I/AAAAAAAAAKw/8ECSsMiOjIg/s400/mariechristmas09-2small.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5411312403933964114" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 319px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_-AfYbr0qY9c/SxjX9feAonI/AAAAAAAAAKo/B9hIiziYJZs/s400/mariechristmas09-small.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5411312403705012850" />Northwest Prettieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13410897412014294766noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-957655922256139679.post-9805353996328077842009-08-12T21:43:00.000-07:002009-08-12T21:55:24.013-07:00I finally got some things Listed to eBayAfter a very busy summer (so far) I finally got some things listed on eBay. All mediums welcome.

This is a 3 for 3 ATC swap. Your cards must include birds, a birdcage or aviary and be Marie inspired.

This was my first attempt at such a swap and the art on an ATC (Artist Tranding Card) which are made on a playing card size card (or whatever). I was really lucky when I found the deck of vintage scalloped edge playing cards, which are a child's game. I used found images, stamping, vintage metal glitters, crystals and painted roses... not to shabby for my first attempts. I'll keep at it.Northwest Prettieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13410897412014294766noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-957655922256139679.post-57069184475477822712009-06-26T22:23:00.000-07:002009-06-26T22:36:33.602-07:00I'LL Miss You *~Michael~*<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 350px; height: 229px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-AfYbr0qY9c/SkWtzETlkWI/AAAAAAAAAJQ/i7OETy91PRM/s400/michaeljackson.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5351874825040531810" />
I've always been a fan of Michael Jackson. I grew up with him. He's only 10 months older than I am. My heart goes out to his family! I've lost a brother, I know how completely sad it is. My prayers are with them now.

When I was about 11-12 years old, my girlfriends and I put on a show for our parents, in the garage of our suburban house~ using white sheets as a back-drop, card table folding chairs and picnic table benches for seating. I had a large (probably 4 foot fury purple foot rug that we centered for "stage" appeal. After everyone was seated, (my brother) lifted the needle onto the spinning 45 record and we all set off to pretend to sing and dance to Michael Jackson's "A B C" & "Rockin Robin" songs ....it was quite the show!!! And it has always been a very fond memory of childhood days gone by!!Northwest Prettieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13410897412014294766noreply@blogger.com2
